1.) Are you licensed with the State of Georgia? 2.) Do you accept any insurance? 3.) Do you work with couples who have mental health disabilities and childhood dysfunction?
I want to answer your questions noted above. I wrestled for years with state licensure questions as I don't want a governmental entity lording over what I can offer and how do I help people get what they need from a Biblical standpoint, but also from practical insight. What the Lord led me to do was "Full Disclosure" with documents and information, and "Client Consent" agreements. What that means in practice is that I have documents that I get clients to sign and initial.
I let them know that I hold a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University. However, I chose not to seek state licensure or pursue the route of getting on insurance panels. If that is what they want and are looking for, then I kindly tell them that I am not the "fit" for their needs. There are no unethical dealings or misguided treatment. Everything is upfront and known at the beginning. Can I be of benefit to others? I do believe God has prepared me for this. One thing that I have purposefully done was to make my rates affordable without insurance.
Secondly, I have had much training with mental health coaching (see below) from Light University, an affiliate program from Liberty University and the American Association of Christian Counselors (www.aacc.net). With that said, yes, I would be able to help people with mental health disabilities and childhood dysfunction. However, when the mental health needs get into more challenging things like schizophrenia, and the like, I know not to counsel beyond my level of expertise and may need to do a referral to a more qualified mental health professional. I try to help locate a credible professional for my client’s needs. In the end, I am simply here to serve.
